Wildlife Watching
Nestled beside the River Tweed near Melrose and Galashiels, Faldonside Eco offers a rare opportunity to observe iconic British wildlife in its natural habitat. Our rewilded estate—rich in woodland, riverbanks, and meadows—is home to elusive otters, vibrant kingfishers, pine martens, deer, and more.
Whether you’re a keen wildlife photographer, a nature lover, or visiting with family, Faldonside is the perfect place to slow down and reconnect with nature.
Photography Hides – Quietly Observe Nature
Launching Autumn 2025
Our purpose-built wildlife photography hides are discreetly placed in prime viewing locations across the estate to give you the best chance of a close-up encounter, without disturbing the animals.
- Woodland Hides:Â Observe pine martens, badgers, and woodland birds beneath the canopy of our native trees.
- Riverside Hides: Overlooking the tranquil bends of the River Tweed, ideal for spotting otters, herons, and the flash of a kingfisher’s wings.
Each hide includes seating, shelter, and wide sightlines—perfect for photographers, nature watchers, and families.
Wildlife You Might Spot
- Otters:Â Often seen at dawn or dusk, playing or hunting along the river.
- Kingfishers:Â Dazzling flashes of blue darting low across the water.
- Badgers:Â Emerging from their setts as evening falls.
- Pine Martens:Â Agile and curious, moving silently through the forest.
- Seasonal highlights:Â Deer, nesting birds, and woodland songbirds.
Please note: Wildlife sightings can’t be guaranteed, but patient guests are often rewarded with truly special moments.
